20251123 Luke 12:22-34 From Worry to Trust: See Rightly, Seek, and Share! (Message Summary)

In today's passage from Luke chapter 12, the word that appears most frequently is "worry." Many people live with worry, and even those who believe in God live in the midst of anxiety. That's why Jesus calls out, "O you of little faith!" (verse 28) and directly commands us, "Do not worry."

1)Jesus’ Counsel (22-23): Jesus tells us, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear." Why? Because life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Won't the God who gave us life provide the food to sustain it? Won't the God who created our bodies provide clothing? So why do we worry?

2)Consider the Ravens (24): "Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them." In Elijah's time, even during famine, ravens brought bread and meat daily at God's command (1 Kings 17:4). We are far more valuable than ravens—we are God's children, created in His image.

3)Worry is Useless (25-26): "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Chronic worry and stress weaken our immune system, burden our hearts, and disturb our sleep. Moreover, most of what we worry about never actually happens.

4)Look at the Lilies (27-28): "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these." If God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will He clothe us? The root of worry lies in our lack of faith—in our inability to trust God.

5)Remember the 40 Years in the Wilderness (29-30): The Israelites ate manna for forty years in the wilderness (Exodus 16:35). They didn't farm, work in factories, or run shops, yet God fed them without fail every single day. "Your Father knows that you need them." The difference between us and the world is whether we have the Creator God as our Father.

6)Adjust Your Focus (31): "But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well." Peter walked on water when he looked at Jesus, but began to sink when he looked at the wind and waves (Matthew 14:30). Nehemiah ignored mockery and ridicule, focused on rebuilding the wall as God's mission, and completed it in just 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15). When we focus on God's kingdom and His righteousness, our personal worries fade away.

7)The Secret of Prayer (32): "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom." Our God doesn't give reluctantly—He delights in giving to us! Daniel prayed three times a day despite the prayer ban (Daniel 6:10), and God sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions (Daniel 6:22). James 4:2 says, "You do not have, because you do not ask God."

8)The Principle of Sharing (33-34): "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted." In the feeding of the five thousand, a boy offered his lunch, and after Jesus gave thanks and distributed it, 5,000 people ate their fill with twelve baskets left over (Luke 9:16-17). Proverbs 11:24-25 says, "One man gives freely, yet gains even more," and Luke 6:38 promises, "Give, and it will be given to you." "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (verse 34).

Conclusion: There are three weapons to overcome worry. First, change your focus. Look not at people or circumstances but at Jesus, and seek first God's kingdom (verse 31). Second, seek through prayer. Like Daniel, kneel three times a day and create prayer requests instead of worry lists (verse 32). Third, begin sharing. Like the boy with five loaves and two fish, give thanks even when you have little, and share what you have—whether time, talents, or material possessions (verses 33-34). We have a Father who feeds the ravens, clothes the lilies, provided manna for 40 years in the wilderness, enabled Peter to walk on water, and rescued Daniel from the lions' den. We are no longer orphans!
