Exodus 40:17-38 When We Live in Obedience to God's Word, We Experience God's Glory

The book of Exodus does not end with the Israelites arriving in the Promised Land, but surprisingly concludes with the scene of the tabernacle being completed. The tabernacle was the place where God promised to meet with the Israelites, a space filled with God's presence.

Looking at the text, the phrase "as the Lord commanded Moses" is repeated a total of seven times (verses 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 32). This shows that everything about the tabernacle was made in complete obedience to God's word. God's word will surely be fulfilled, and just as God created heaven and earth by His word, when we live in obedience according to His word, it will surely be accomplished.

God's purpose in saving Israel from Egypt was not simply to free them from suffering, but to enable them to live as a people who rest and worship. In Egypt, they lived only working, but now they became a people who live in fellowship with God. The first through fourth commandments of the Ten Commandments are ultimately about loving God.
When the tabernacle was completed according to God's word, something amazing happened. God's glory filled the tabernacle. The glory was so overwhelming that even Moses, who had met face to face with God and conversed with Him, could not enter the tabernacle.

In the New Testament era, Jesus came directly among us. John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." While the Old Testament tabernacle was imperfect, through Jesus, the way has been opened for us to be filled with God's glory, grace, and truth.

When we are with Jesus, we experience specific graces. Worry and anxiety disappear, peace comes to our hearts, and we experience the miracle of forgiving those we could not forgive. When we face difficult problems, answers come during prayer, our selfish hearts are transformed into serving hearts, and we live lives overflowing with joy in any situation.
Just as God was with the Israelites through the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire, Jesus promised, "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). As Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6), when our Lord tells us to go, we go; when He tells us to stop, we stop. Receiving Jesus means receiving Jesus as the Lord who guides my life.

So how can we specifically live in obedience to God's word? First, pray seeking God's kingdom and righteousness, choose VIPs to pray for one minute daily, repent in the evening if we have disobeyed God's word, and try again tomorrow. Be the first to apologize and the first to say thank you. When angry, don't react immediately but wait at least three seconds, pray, and then respond. Even in our busy daily lives, strive to read God's word every day and actually live according to the word God has given us.

God's glory does not come simply because we live good lives. When we obey God's word, enjoy true rest in Sunday worship, and live lives making disciples of all nations, God's glory comes abundantly to our lives and church. This event of God's glory—who created all things in the universe—coming to us is truly tremendous grace from God. I bless you in the name of the Lord that you may taste and enjoy this glorious grace throughout this week as well.
