Exodus 14:1-21 God's Navigation: See the salvation the Lord will bring you today!

Introduction
What would it be like to get lost in the vast Egyptian wilderness? In a place where you see nothing but identical sand and rocks in every direction—north, south, east, and west—and two million people need to find their way? What would we do when we face such crises in our lives? Fortunately, God's people had a special navigation system: a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

An Unexpected Route Change
The first amazing thing about God's navigation is that it leads us down unexpected paths. To the Israelites who had just left Egypt, God gives a surprising command: "Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon" (Exodus 14:2). He was telling them to go back the way they came. It was a command to give up the shortcut to Canaan and go to a completely blocked land. In front was the Red Sea, behind was the Egyptian watchtower (Migdol), and on both sides were cities of idols—a completely trapped location.
God's navigation sometimes leads us down dead-end roads, even when there are more comfortable and faster routes available. Why?

True Character Revealed in Crisis
When Pharaoh pursued them with 600 select chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt, the Israelites' reaction is interesting. At first it says they "cried out to the Lord," but in the very next verse they are complaining against Moses: "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?" (Exodus 14:11).
Crisis is a mirror that reveals our true faith. In normal times, everyone seems similar, but when crisis comes, real faith and fake faith are distinguished. The people saw what God had led as something Moses had done. Through the eyes of faith, it's God's guidance; through the eyes of unbelief, it becomes human error.

Faith Leadership: Moses' Response
Moses' reaction was completely different: "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today... The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" (Exodus 14:13-14). Moses looked at the same situation but interpreted it as an opportunity for salvation. He saw it not as a crisis, but as a stage where God would work. This is faith leadership.

Faith in Action
God's response was unexpected: "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide it" (Exodus 14:15-16). It was a command not just to pray, but to act. However, the required action was very simple: raise the staff and stretch it out over the sea. Even an elementary school student could do it.
God doesn't require us to do what we cannot do. We only need to do what we can. God will do the rest.

God's Timing
What happened when Moses stretched out his staff? "Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land" (Exodus 14:21). The wind had to blow all night long. It didn't part immediately. God has His own timing too. We just need to obey and wait.

Application and Commitment
God's navigation is different from the world's navigation. It may seem to lead us down longer and more difficult paths, but ultimately it's the most certain path of salvation. Do we also have barriers like the Red Sea before us today? We should not worry. God Himself fights for us and brings salvation for us.
We just need to raise the staff of faith and move forward. We must all become people who trust and follow God's navigation. I bless you in the name of the Lord that you will become people of the Lord who bear witness to the living God.
