20250727 Numbers 13:21-33 Be Bold! When You Have Faith, Your Life's Confession Changes.

Two Confessions Before the Promised Land
The Israelites finally arrived at the Promised Land of Canaan. It was the moment when they could end their 40 years of wilderness life. God had clearly said, "Go up and take possession of the land. Do not be afraid" (Deuteronomy 1:21). However, the people requested to scout it out first. Eventually, 12 spies were sent, and when they returned after 40 days to give their report, something amazing happened.
All the spies testified with one voice: "It truly is a land flowing with milk and honey!" It was the moment when everyone confirmed that God's promise was true. But from here, the 12 men's opinions began to split, even though they had seen the same land.

Two Perspectives: Despair and Victory
The 10 spies spoke first: "But... the people who live there are very strong. The cities are fortified and very large. We even saw the Anakites, giants there, and we seemed like grasshoppers in their eyes. No, that land itself is a place that devours its inhabitants!" Their confession was filled with despair and fear. It was the result of judging based on what they saw. It seemed analytical and objective, but within it was a calculation that excluded God.
On the other hand, Caleb made a completely different confession: "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it!" (Numbers 13:30). Why did such different confessions emerge when they had seen the same giants and the same fortified cities?

The Difference in Confession That Faith Makes
The difference was faith. Caleb had the assurance that God was with them. When God had said "the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites" (Numbers 13:2), that was enough for him. Just as David confessed in Psalm 23, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me," Caleb had this same faith. Just as Jesus' name is Immanuel, meaning "God with us," Caleb believed in God's presence.

The Principle of How Confession Changes Life
The Bible clearly states how important our confession is. Proverbs 18:21 says, "The tongue has the power of life and death," and Romans 10:10 says, "For it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." When you have faith, your confession changes. When your confession changes, your heart changes. When your heart changes, your actions change, and ultimately your entire life is transformed. This is the principle of transformation that God has given us.

The Boldness We Need Today
Jesus told his disciples, "Take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Though we face trouble in our lives, we are fighting a battle that has already been won. Moses also told the spies to "be bold" (Numbers 13:20).
Why can we be bold? First, because God is with us. Second, because it is what God has promised. Third, because it is a battle whose victory has already been determined.

Confessions of Faith in Japan
Just as Caleb proclaimed "We can certainly do it!" even after seeing the giants of Canaan, we too must make confessions of faith at every moment here in Japan. As the apostle Paul said, "For we live by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Daily Practice
Every morning, look in the mirror and say to yourself: "God is with me today. I can certainly overcome today. I will surely be victorious today. I am living a battle that has already been won." Whenever you face difficult situations, proclaim: "God is with me, so I can certainly overcome!" This is the change in confession that faith creates.
Ultimately, the Difference of Faith
In the end, the 10 spies had to return to the wilderness, and only Caleb and Joshua entered the Promised Land. The difference was only faith. We too must choose: Will we look only at reality and despair, or will we believe God's promises and boldly confess?
"Be bold! When you have faith, your life's confession changes!" What confession of faith will you live by?
"We can certainly do it!" I bless you to live each day victoriously with this confession.
