Hakata Letter 83: CU-IN - Why We Are Starting This
I first encountered CU-IN three years ago. Pastor Lee Jeongwoo of Jangsan Church, which practices house church ministry, introduced me to CU-IN and told me about Sasa School, where CU-IN is implemented in practice. At first, I thought it was simply one of many Christian alternative schools, but I came to realize it goes beyond school education—it addresses the very life of Christians, with its core being living according to God's creation principles.
CU-IN is a combination of "Cubical" and "Integrity," referring to thinking according to God's creation principles. Since we live in the universe that God created, we naturally should think and live according to His creation principles. The foundation of CU-IN is entirely in God's Word. However, it differs from individual QT (Quiet Time) in its approach—rather than remaining in personal devotional life, it aims for the community to become one through the Word. CU-IN envisions families, mokjangs, and churches integrated through the Word. CU-IN enables grandchildren and grandparents, people with different educational backgrounds, to share the Word together, be moved together, and pray together.
The clinical results from Sasa School were clear, and seeing Jangsan Church, which has been incorporating CU-IN into their church school for the past five years, made me want our children to experience this as well. The decisive moment came last year when our church youth department students visited Jangsan Church's mokjang and directly asked me to start CU-IN. I became convinced that the time had come for our church.
You might think, "Isn't it ultimately just reading the Bible, meditating, and praying?" The content may seem similar, but it's different. "Then what's different?" You understand this when you experience it directly. Rather than explaining CU-IN theoretically, you come to know the difference by actually doing it. Looking at churches that use CU-IN, children who have grown through CU-IN are clearly different.
Some may say, "Pastor, why are you starting yet another thing? We'd prefer you just do well what we're already doing!" I completely understand. However, I've reached the conclusion that CU-IN will develop our children's thinking abilities, activate the frontal lobe of the brain to develop children's brains, help the elderly prevent dementia, and enrich our house church ministry. Since this benefits all members, I could no longer hesitate. Some might say, "It's already hard enough to properly conduct house church mokjang meetings!" But this is not another burden—it's a good tool that will enrich mokjang gatherings. Particularly, it will help naturally connect life sharing and Word sharing in the sharing time, which is the highlight of mokjang gatherings.
To summarize the advantages of CU-IN: First, it's not difficult. Second, the daily portion is not large, and it's five days a week. Third, if you do it consistently, you naturally train to think from God's perspective. With this training, you become an excellent person who can think in realms that worldly people cannot. I am convinced that if our children consistently practice CU-IN biblical meditation, they will become excellent even in the world.
To avoid confusion, for a while we will proceed with both the existing QT Scripture passages and CU-IN. Then we will gradually transition to CU-IN. We plan to apply this uniformly from young children in kindergarten to adults, and also at Dream School. I am investing much time and effort in preparation for this.
Good things don't happen for free—they always require sacrifice and effort. There may be unexpected difficulties in this work, but we will try to climb one step at a time as much as we can. I'm always grateful that our church follows well what the senior pastor proposes. However, there is passive obedience and active obedience. There is a big difference in results between following reluctantly and walking together with understanding and enthusiasm.
I ask that our members walk this journey with understanding. (January 4, 2026)
